Everyone has a desire to love and to be loved. To love is to trust and unconditionally believe in the good of someone or something. Lack of love can be the source of conflict rising from negative emotions, such as fear and anger. When we are loved, we reveal the best versions of ourselves. When we are loved, we feel happy and whole.
My piece aims to emphasize the importance of relationships and human connection. When we love one another, it feels better to overcome hardships. We can strive forward together by being compassionate, caring, patient, respectful and grateful. We can support each other through our highs and lows. My piece also explores the idea of loving yourself - opening up to love and to be loved. There are many loops and obstacles along the way to meet one’s goals. It is important to reach out to someone, when necessary.
My design considers the physical implication of the journey from the bottom to the top. A string of hands reach upward. From above, larger and warmer hands help pull the smaller and colder hands up. The hands branch out to offer help, or to ask for help. We can look to each other as a source of strength and growth. The centre of my piece is mostly bright coloured because we can only grow as individuals with support from our communities. This piece is titled Work in Progress.
My piece was chosen to be part of a show called Premah: The Celebration of Love. It was located in OCAD and organized by the Hindu Students Association.
